Jumbos Continue To Dominate On The Mound With 10-2 Win Over Trinity (TX)

SAN ANTONIO (March 16, 2026) – The Tufts University baseball team knocked off Trinity University (TX), 10-2, under the lights at Trinity Baseball Field in non-conference play.

For the Jumbos (7-1, 0-0 NESCAC), Emmet Christian took the start for Tufts on the mound for the second time this season and started off looking comfortable with four consecutive 1-2-3 innings which included five strikeouts. The sophomore finished his night with six strikeouts while allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.

For the third straight day the Jumbos put runs on the board in the first inning. Jack Kamin scored on a wild pitch from third after reaching base on a walk earlier in the inning. A second consecutive error by the Tiger defense allowed AJ Lysko to score to give Tufts a 2-0 advantage early.

Trinity tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth inning to break through Christian's commanding start. Michael Lustina doubled to right field with two outs recorded and Khalfani Coney followed with an RBI triple to right field that scored Lustina. Nicholas Jones registered the Tigers' third consecutive hit to bring Coney in from third.

Mitchell Hwang replaced Christian in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs on the board and escaped the inning with two runners left on base. Hwang produced two strikeouts, two walks, and allowed no runs in 1.0 inning of action.

The Jumbos bats got hot in the top of the seventh inning as they broke open a four-run advantage with a 6-2 score. Kamin led off with a single into to centerfield and James Henshon immediately followed with a single of his own through the ride side of the infield. Kamin scored on an error from the Trinity second baseman. Henshon and Lysko both scored on a two-run triple into deep centerfield from Tate Bannish. Tom Pender then scored Bannish on a sacrifice fly ball.

Henshon added an insurance run for Tufts in the top of the eighth with an RBI single into center field that scored Kamin from second. Bannish, Pierson Cooper, and Pender touched home in the top of the ninth to make it a 10-2 game.

Derek Desmarais relieved Hwang in the bottom of the sixth inning and earned the win allowing no runs, no hits, and no walks, while striking out four batters in 3.1 innings of dominance.

Kamin was an impressive 6-for-10 at the plate throughout the last two games in San Antonio. Henshon collected three base hits in today's matchup as the only multi-hit batter in the contest. Desmarais has not allowed a run and has conceded just three hits in four appearances this season.

The Jumbos will visit Roger Williams University on Thursday at 4 PM.
