No. 15 Jumbo Women's Tennis Blanks Bates In NESCAC Opener

LEWISTON, ME (March 7, 2026) – The No. 15 ranked Tufts University women's tennis team opened NESCAC play with dominance on Saturday, registering a 7-0 victory over Bates College.
 
The Bobcats entered today's match with a 1-5 record, while the Jumbos came into today with a 2-0 start after defeating both Vassar and Nichols 7-0.
 
Tufts jumped out of the gate strong with a doubles sweep to take a 1-0 advantage in the match. At No. 2 doubles, Lucy Mitchell and Natalie Hu cruised to a 6-0 against Isabella Saul and Ava Steinberger. At No. 3 doubles for the Jumbos, Melanie Woodbury and Claudia Grove blanked Grace LaFountain and Elise Hepburn 6-0.
 
Rachel Cranley and Stephanie Woodbury competed at No. 1 doubles for Tufts, as they fought hard for a 6-3 win over Emelyn Harris and Iris Westmoreland to capture the doubles point for the Jumbos.
 
In singles, Hu collected a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Steinberger at the No. 5 slot. At No. 2 singles, Cranley looked comfortable in a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory over Saul.
 
At the No. 3 and No. 6 spot, Woodbury and Nikki Kintiroglou looked strong as they both notched 6-2, 6-3 wins, respectively.
 
Mitchell and Westmorland battled at No. 1 singles. Mitchell took a tightly contested 7-5, 6-4 victory to remain undefeated in the young season.
 
On Wednesday, the Jumbos will host Endicott College in non-conference play at 4:00 PM. Tufts is currently undefeated in two matches against the Gulls and will look to continue that streak soon.
