MEDFORD, MA (March 8, 2026) – The Tufts University baseball team captured two wins on the second day of a back-to-back doubleheader at Sol Gittleman Park as the Jumbos start the season off hot with a 4-0 record.
The Jumbos (4-0, 0-0 NESCAC) put
Emmet Christian on the bump to start game one. Christian was in total control allowing just two hits through 5.0 inning of dealing. The sophomore struck out four batters and conceded no earned runs in the win.
Tufts poured on three of their four total runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Max Pavlik doubled to left field,
Caden Abraham blasted an RBI triple to right center that sent Pavlik home. Abraham then scored on a balk by the Aaron Forgues.
Jesse McCullough then reached first on a throwing error by the Hobart shortstop and eventually scored on an RBI double from
Malcolm Whitfield to give the Jumbos an early 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Abraham led off with a double to left center and Whitfield singled to right field which scored Abraham to make it a 4-0 lead for Tufts.
Christian handled the following three innings with ease, recording three consecutive 1-2-3 innings from the third through the fifth.
Jack McLaughlin relieved Christian in the top of the sixth inning and delivered 1.1 innings of effective work allowing zero hits, zero walks, and zero runs while striking out one batter.
Derek Desmarais came in for the final two outs of the ball game and struck out both batters by painting edges.
In Game two,
Michael O'Brien took the mound to start for the Jumbos. O'Brien produced a solid 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and zero earned runs. The junior also waved two batters as he registered the win in his season debut.
Mark Herlihy earned the save with 3.0 dominant innings pitched, no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Tufts posted two of their three total runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Tate Bannish led off with his second home run in as many days to make it a 1-0 lead.
Tom Pender then scored from third during a run down sequence between second and first that distracted the Hobart infield from Pender crossing home.
The Statesmen recorded an unearned run in the top of the third inning after a Will Jones RBI single sent Jack Byrnes home from second base after reaching on an error.
The Jumbos tacked on their final run of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning after
Jesse McCullough reached first on a fielder's choice, stole second, and reached home plate after an RBI single from
James Henshon.
Tufts hosts Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at 4 PM!
