WORCESTER, MA (April 19, 2026) -- The No. 3 Tufts University men's rowing squad rowed well in a strong field at the Baker Cup Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond, winning the first varsity to highlight the day's action in Worcester on a rainy morning.
The Jumbos started the morning by winning first race launched for the first varsity, as Tufts posted a strong time of 5:59.9 to best the Williams 1V8+ by 2.56 seconds. Williams came in also tied for third in the latest IRCA rankings. No. 6 Marietta was 12.03 seconds behind Tufts with a 6:11.93, while No. 8 WPI was 5.2 seconds behind Marietta with a 6:17.13.
The 1V8+ was coxswained by

In the second varsity, Tufts was neck-and-neck with the Williams 2V8+ through the opening 500 meters but the second Eph boat was able to pull away for a win with a time of 6:07.28. Tufts was 4.4 seconds behind Williams with a 6:11.68, while Marietta was third with a 6:20.16 and WPI rounded out the four-boat race with a 6:31.91.

The third race featured a pair of Williams and Tufts boats, and the Jumbos won both match-ups with Williams to finish first and third overall. The Tufts "A" boat, which was the third varsity for the Jumbos, rowed to a time of 6:17.1 to narrowly edge the Williams 3V8+ by just 0.69 seconds in a battle.

The fourth varsity finished third only 5.83 seconds behind the 3V8+ for the Jumbos, coming across the finish line in 6:22.93 while edging the Williams fourth boat by 0.9 seconds in another thrilling finish. The 4V8+ was made up of

Tufts also rowed a pair of fours, and the Tufts "B" boat won the five-boat race with a time of 7:07.5, while the Tufts "A" boat was 11.25 seconds behind the first four with a 7:18.75 to post a 1-2 finish.

The Jumbos will have a weekend off before returning to action for the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday, May 2.
