MEDFORD, MA (April 21, 2026) – After a busy visit to California during which she competed in throwing events three days in a row, junior
Ceci LaBarge of the Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team has earned the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Field Athlete of the Week honor today.
LaBarge started her week at the University of La Verne's Leopard Invitational on Thursday. Competing in the hammer throw, she had a career-best 51.41m (168'1") mark that was fifth at the meet. The distance ranks her 22nd in the nation this week, and improves her #3 all-time ranking at Tufts.
On Friday, LaBarge moved over to Azusa Pacific University, where she competed in another hammer throw event at the Bryan Clay Invitational. In a field of Division I, II and III competitors, she was 12th out of 51 entries with her 50.27m (164'11") distance. It's the third-best mark of her career.
She returned to the Bryan Clay meet on Saturday for the shot put. Her 10.35m (33'1 ½") throw is her outdoor PR.
LaBarge's NESCAC honor, her first, continues a season of outstanding achievement by the Jumbo team. Her sophomore teammate
Arielle Chechile was also announced as the NESCAC Track Athlete of the Week today. It's the first time Tufts has won both the Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors in the same week since the NESCAC began presenting the awards in 2008. Tufts has now earned four of the conference's Performer of the Week awards this season, including junior
Simi Lawal for track on April 7 and sophomore Elysee Cumberland for field on April 14.
The Tufts team will be at Williams College this weekend (Apr. 25-26) for the NESCAC Championship meet.
