NEW ORLEANS (April 23, 2026) – The Tufts University coed sailing team is in 12th place out of 16 teams after the first day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Racing Championship on Thursday.
Racing on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, the majority of a first round robin was completed on Thursday. Tufts was one of five teams to finish 12 races today, and posted a 4-8 record. The Jumbos won a tie-breaker over Boston College (number of races won when tied teams met), who also had a 4-8 record.
Ten of the 16 teams raced 11 times today, including Harvard who is in first place with an 11-0 record. Stanford is the second-place team with a 10-2 mark, followed by Brown (8-3) and Navy (7-3).
Tufts' wins today came against Boston College, Tulane, Coast Guard and Northwestern. The losses were to Harvard, Stanford, Roger Williams, College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Hobart-William Smith and Penn.
Depending on conditions as always, the opening round robin will be completed on Friday. Tufts still has races against Brown, Navy and St. Mary's (Md.).
The second stage of the competition will be a round robin of the top eight teams from the first stage. Currently 12th, the Jumbos will look to move up in order to continue competing.

Pearse Dowd was paired with junior crew

Wyatt Bischoff skippered with Beaver as crew for some races.
Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 10 AM.
