MEDFORD, MA (April 24, 2026) - The No. 13 Tufts women's tennis team honored its six graduating seniors on Senior Day as it welcomed the No. 14 Washington and Lee Generals to the Vouté Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon in Medford, ultimately falling 4-3. The team recognized seniors
Ellie Gershaw,
Lucy Mitchell,
Stephanie Woodbury,
Rachel Cranley,
Steffy Jullian, and
Nikki Kintiroglou in front of a crowd filled with friends and family. Tufts had not faced Washington and Lee since 2022, when it earned an 8-1 victory under the previous NCAA scoring system. The match earlier today also marked the Jumbos' final regular season contest of the year before they head into the postseason next weekend.
The Bo's came out strong right from the start of the match. At No. 3 doubles,
Claudia Grove and
Melanie Woodbury defeated Allie Murrell and Haley Stoltz 6-2 in a quick 22 minute set. With their win, the pairing finished the regular season with an 8-2 record in doubles play. No. 2 doubles finished a few minutes later, where
Alyssa Khou and
Kyra McCandless stayed undefeated as a tandem, beating Greer Webb and Margarette Berdy. After falling behind 4-1, they came back to win five straight games for a 6-4 victory that clinched the doubles point and put the Jumbos up 1-0.
Brooklyn Bindas and
Natalie Hu completed the sweep with a 7-5 win over Lauren Long and Grace Lorenz at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel Cranley earned a key win on her senior day, defeating Lorenz 6-2, 6-3 and snapping a two match losing streak. Cranley finished her senior season with a 7-4 singles record.
Lucy Mitchell faced Long at No. 1 singles but fell 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.
Alyssa Khou then lost to Sarah Ladd 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6 singles, which evened the match at 2-2.
Nadia Khera dropped her match to Murrell at No. 4 singles in three sets. After losing the first set 6-2, she responded with a 6-4 second set win before falling 6-1 in the third.
Berdy clinched the match for the Generals with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Hu. Although the team result had already been decided,
Melanie Woodbury earned a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Sarah Donnelly to secure a third point for the Jumbos.
The Bo's finished the season with a 12-5 overall record after the loss, and their New England Small College Athletic Conference, NESCAC, record remained at 7-3. Last week, the Jumbos clinched a spot in the NESCAC Championships, which will be held at Middlebury College from May 1 to May 3. Their seed has yet to be determined, although they will be no lower than the No. 5 seed in the tournament.
