NEW ORLEANS (April 24, 2026) – Despite winning two of their three races on Friday, the Tufts University coed sailing team was eliminated from the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race Championship.
The Jumbos started the day in 12th place and needed to move up to the top eight to advance to the second round. The Tufts team wasn't able to do so, even though they won two of their three races on Friday which gave them a 6-9 record overall for 12th place.
In their three races on Friday, Tufts defeated St. Mary's (Md.) and Brown and lost to Navy. Brown was in sixth place at the time of the Tufts win against the Bears.
The top eight teams advancing to the next round were Harvard, Stanford, Roger Williams, Navy, Georgetown, Brown, Tulane and Dartmouth. Those teams began competing in the Top 8 round later on Friday, from which the top four will advance to a final round on Saturday that will determine the national champion. The Jumbos had an opening-round victory on Thursday against the Tulane team which advanced.
Competing for Tufts today in all three races was senior skipper

This was Tufts' sixth straight year qualifying for the ICSA Open Team Race Nationals. The Jumbos have finished 12th at the event three years in a row now.
