No. 20 Baseball Caps Off Stellar Regular Season with 8-7 Walk-Off Win Over WPI

MEDFORD, MA (April 29, 2026) – The Tufts University baseball team finished off their strong regular season with an exciting 11th inning 8-7 walk-off victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in non-conference action at Sol Gittleman Park.

For the Jumbos (25-9, 8-4 NESCAC), Mark Herlihy got the nod to be the starting arm on the bump for his 10th appearance of the season. In a bullpen day, the junior allowed one earned run on one hit while striking out three out of the eight batters he faced in two complete innings of work.

In the bottom of the first, James Henshon got the offense going with a lead off double into left center field and scored after Jack Kamin hit an RBI double to center field. Kamin then advanced to third on a ground out from Tate Bannish and scored on another ground out by Malcolm Whitfield.

The Goats responded quickly in the top of the second frame to knot that game at two. Joe DiMichele reached first with two outs on the board after a throwing error from the Tufts third baseman. Greyson Baldizar followed with a two-run no doubter over the right center field fence.

The Jumbos broke open a three run lead in the bottom of the second with three runs in the frame. AJ Lysko opened the inning by reaching first after being hit by a pitch and advanced to the middle bag on a wild pitch. Cole Bohane started off his day with an RBI double into left field to bring home Lysko. After Bohane advanced to third on another wild pitch, Kamin hit an RBI infield single to load the bases and bring Bohane to the plate. Bannish plated the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly ball to just deep enough into the outfield to where Banner could sprint home from third.

In the top of the fourth inning, WPI put four runs on the board to take a one run advantage. Baldizar added three more RBIs to his total in the inning to give him a five in the game.

The Goats increased their lead by one in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-5 game.

Down 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth, the Jumbos refused to give up and scored the game-tying run to send the game into extra innings. McKiernan led off with a single to right field and moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt from Gavin Lind. Bohane collected his third hit of the afternoon to send home McKiernan with an RBI single to left field.

Derek Desmarais came into the game in the top of the ninth and produced two complete shutout inning with no hits allowed and one strikeout.

Max Williams relieved Desmarais in the top of the 11th and earned his first career collegiate win with two strikeouts and no runs allowed on no hits.

Tufts took home the victory in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 11th. Bannish opened the frame with a double off of the opposing pitcher and advanced to third after a ground out from Whitfield. Lind and Bohane walked to load the bases before Nick Banner picked up the Jumbos third consecutive walk to score Bannish and win the game.
