CRANSTON, RI (April 4, 2026) – The Tufts University coed sailing team advanced to a second round with the top eight teams at the New England Open Team Race Championship (Fowle Trophy) on Saturday.
Out of 12 teams overall, the Jumbos finished the first round robin on Saturday with a 5-6 record. They had wins over MIT, Coast Guard, Bowdoin, Rhode Island and Connecticut College. The losses came against Harvard, Roger Williams, Brown, Boston College, Dartmouth and Yale.
The 5-6 mark was good enough to get the Jumbos into the top eight and a second round robin, which also started on Saturday. Tufts sailed just one race in this round, losing to Brown. They have contests against Harvard, Roger Williams, Coast Guard, Boston College, Rhode Island and Dartmouth remaining for Sunday.
Through today's racing, Tufts has a 5-7 overall record which has them in seventh place out of the 12 teams. Harvard University is undefeated (12-0) and in first place.
If time and conditions allow, a third round of the top six or top four teams will be contested on Sunday.
The Jumbos used six different combinations today. Senior skipper
Ben Mueller raced with sophomore
Kate Castleberry and junior
Courtland Doyle as crews. Freshman skipper
Pearse Dowd was with junior
Cody Lamoreux and Castleberry as crews. Junior skipper
Wyatt Bischoff was joined by junior
Sean Beaver and Lamoreux as crews.
First warning for Sunday's racing is at 10 AM.
