MEDFORD, MA (April 8, 2026) – The Tufts University baseball team coasted to a 15-3 victory over the Engineers of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a non-conference contest at Sol Gittleman Park this afternoon in clear sky conditions.
The Jumbos (16-5, 3-3 NESCAC), began with
Mark Herlihy on the mound for his fourth start of the season and seventh appearance. The junior conceded a home run in the top of the first to the first batter in the lineup. Herlihy would then respond with dominance by recording 15 straight outs. The junior earned his first win of the season with one hit allowed on the solo home run at the beginning of the game. Herlihy finished with four strikeouts, one hit allowed, one earned run allowed, and no walks in five full innings of play.
The Engineers began the game at the top of the first with a home run from Dalton Chi, going over right field on a hitter's count. Herlihy would then respond with two consecutive outs, the final out being a strike out to escape the inning with minimal damage.
Tufts answered with a run in the bottom of the second after an RBI single from
Max Pavlik. The Jumbos would then score another run on an RBI single from
Tom Pender, and a wild pitch would allow Pavlik to cross home for the third run of the inning to put Tufts on top.
The Jumbos extended their lead to 11-1 with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth frame. Pender, Pavlik,
Caden Abraham,
Jack Kamin, Seidel,
Tate Bannish, and
Malcolm Whitfield all reached home plate in the inning.
MIT resumed scoring with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, ending their scoreless stretch since the opening batter.
Mitchell Hwang continued his strong season after he replaced
Lachlan Ellis in the top of the sixth inning to retire the final five batters of the game. Hwang finished with two strikeouts and no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
Seidel hit a three-run double into left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Tufts back ahead by double digits. Henshon followed with an RBI single to right field to bring Seidel home, scoring four runs in total in the inning.
Henshon (2-for-5), Kamin (2-for-5), Pavlik (2-for-2), and Seidel (2-for-3) all registered multiple hits for the Jumbos in the win.
The Jumbos will visit Amherst, NY on Friday for a matchup against Amherst College at 4 PM.
