Fast Start Propels No. 1 Jumbo Men's Lacrosse Into NCAA Semifinals After 22-9 Win Over York

MEDFORD, MA (May 16, 2026) -- The top-ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team scored the game's first nine goals Saturday including leading 7-0 through the first seven minutes of the game as the Jumbos never trailed in a 22-9 win over No. 6 York College of Pennsylvania in the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals on Bello Field.

Despite losing the first face-off of the game, the Jumbos were still able to score just 12 seconds into the game after a turnover, as Chase Beyer tallied his 48th of the season from Ethan O'Neill to give Tufts an early lead. A little less than a minute later Garrett Kelly scored at 13:53 followed by a Brooks Hauser unassisted strike to make it 3-0 less than 90 seconds into the contest.

The goals continued to come in furious fashion for the Jumbos as Jack Regnery tallied twice around another Hauser score, and Peter Kraemer potted his 17th of the season to make it 7-0 at the 8:06 mark of the firs quarter. In all, Tufts would net 10 goals in the first frame to take a 10-3 lead into the second period.

York got into the game and pulled to within six on a Cory Bergmann goal at 11:05, but Tufts responded with three of the last four goals of the half to including an assisted goal from Kelly to make it 13-5 headed into the locker room.

The third quarter started like the game as Beyer and Hauser netted the first four goals of the second half, and Elliot Rutherford put the exclamation point on the win with his first career goal as Tufts moved into its sixth straight NCAA semifinal appearance.

Hauser was deadly offensively for the Jumbos with five goals and three assists, scoring on all five of his shots on goal while picking up four ground balls as well. Beyer had seven points on four goals and three assists, and Regnery had three assists in addition to his two goals. Kelly also netted a hat trick, and senior long-stick midfielder had two scores.

Junior Lucas De la Paz was 8-of-13 on face-offs Saturday, leading the Jumbos with seven ground balls, and Victor Salcedo also had five loose balls and a caused turnover in addition to going 5-of-11 at the "X."

Sophomores William Bonner and Davis Owens each tallied three loose ball pick-ups and a caused turnover, while Erik Helgesen was 5-of-9 at the spot with two ground balls. Jack Old made nine saves in 48:20 of game time, and Alex Dircks came in to stop three shots in 11:40 of relief.

Tufts outshot York 46-38 and also forced the Spartans into seven failed clears. The Jumbo EMO unit converted on its two opportunities as well in the win.

Bergmann led the Spartans with four points on three goals and an assist.

The Jumbos will take on Wesleyan University Sunday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. on Bello Field after the Cardinals knocked off Christopher Newport University Saturday night 15-7. Tufts and Wesleyan have played twice in the NCAA Tournament prior to Sunday's game, with the Cardinals winning both of the those match-ups, most recently taking a 12-11 game in 2018.
