Box Score MEDFORD, MA (September 15, 2026) – The Tufts University field hockey team received goals from four different players and recorded a third straight shutout in a 4-0 non-conference win at MIT on Tuesday night.
The Jumbos (4-0) have now won six straight games against their neighboring rivals, while MIT fell to 2-3 on the season. Tufts has won the last three in the series by shutout.
Tufts has given up just one goal in four games this season, and has not allowed an opponent to score in the last 183 minutes of action. This is the team's first three-straight shutouts stretch since September 2024. They have outscored opponents 18-1 so far this year.
Offensively tonight, junior
Hannah Murray and sophomore
Eleanor Helm stayed hot as they both scored first-quarter goals to give Tufts a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes into the game, during close action in front of the cage, Murray scored off an assist from senior
Reagan Malo. Then with nearly a minute left in the frame, Helm worked her way through the circle and fired one home. The goals were the sixth of the season for each player.
MIT would keep it close, led by sophomore goalie Alexia Ninios. The Jumbos had four corners and seven shots in the second quarter, but Ninios made five saves and it remained 2-0 at the half. Shots at that point were 14-1 for Tufts.
Ninios made four more saves in the third quarter and the game went to the fourth with Tufts still holding a 2-0 advantage.
MIT had its best chance of the night in the opening two minutes of the final quarter. Senior Janie Thomas redirected a shot that Jumbo senior goalie
Isabel Ginns knocked down with her right glove and kicked away.
After they were unable to score on their first seven corner opportunities of the evening, Tufts would finish strong by capitalizing on their final two to lead 4-0. Junior
Eleanor Luft banged in a rebound with 10:41 on the clock for her first goal of the year. Senior
Claire Casey then also scored her first of the season on a corner just 1:07 later off an assist from senior
Lilly Ragusa.
MIT would earn four corners of their own in the game, but was unable to generate a shot on goal during those chances.
Shots finished at 23-6 in favor of the Jumbos (15-1 on goal). Ninios recorded 11 saves, while the one stop for Ginns earned her a third consecutive shutout.
The Engineers are coached in her first season by former Tufts associate head coach Megan Caveny. She was part of Tufts' National Coaching Staff of the Year honorees in 2024 and 2025.
