MEDFORD, MA (September 19, 2026) – In their most challenging game so far this season, the second-ranked Tufts University field hockey team closed out a 2-1 NESCAC win against Connecticut College on Homecoming Day at Ounjian Field today.

All three of the goals in the game were scored in the first quarter, and then both defenses took over. The Jumbos improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in NESCAC, while Connecticut College dropped to 1-3 and 0-3 in the conference.

Though Tufts has won 20 of the last 21 games in the series, including nine in row, a much-improved Connecticut College team kept it to a one-goal margin for the second straight year.

Sophomore Eleanor Helm staked Tufts to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. After senior Claire Casey lifted a ball from near midfield into the circle where it bounced away from Helm and a defender, the Tufts sophomore chased it down and drove it home from the middle of the circle. The goal was her seventh of the year in five games.

Not to be outdone, Jumbo junior Hannah Murray scored her seventh of the season with four and a half minutes to play in the opening period to give Tufts a 2-0 lead. After Helm intercepted a Camel pass on the left side of the field, she moved the ball to senior co-captain Reagan Malo. From the top of the circle, Malo finessed a pass to Murray in front of the cage. With a defender on her, Murray turned and rolled a shot into the far side of the goal.

With three minutes to go in the first, the Camels mounted some offensive pressure and earned a corner. Junior Serena Moore sent a short insert to her right where senior tri-captain Sadie Gearan hit a shot that deflected off a defender and bounced into the goal.

The Jumbos faced good goalkeeping again as Conn sophomore Isabella Carnall finished with 10 saves. It was the fifth time in as many games this season that the opposing keeper made double-digit saves against Tufts. The Camels also defended all 14 Tufts corners successfully today.

Though they did not put a shot on goal for the second through fourth quarters, the Camels did pressure the Jumbos in the final frame in a one-goal game. Tufts sophomore Kate Wahler was particularly effective at stopping a few Conn rushes.

The Jumbos finished with a 23-5 advantage in shots and 14-1 on corners. Tufts senior goalie Isabel Ginns made three saves, all in the first 15 minutes of play.
