Coby Tippett

Coby Tippett joins the Tufts University football coaching staff in the fall of 2023 after a stellar career on the gridiron at the University of Rhode Island and Towson University. He will work with the cornerbacks at Tufts.

As a defensive back at URI, Tipped was a First Team All-CAA performer at punt returner, also earning Third Team at safety. He was a 2021 CAA Football Chuck Boone Leadership Award finalist, and was also selected as a 2020 All-CAA Second Teamer and 2019 All-CAA Third Team performer while at Towson. On two occasions, Tippett was tabbed as a CAA Player of the Week.

Prior to his time at Rhode Island and Towson, Tippett played prep at Cheshire Academy, where he led the Cats to an 8-2 record and the NEPSAC Wayne Sanborn Bowl title game. He was named as a Class A All-New England Team. He also attended Xavarian Brothers High School, where he was the ESPNBoston Mr. Football honoree in 2015. He led the Hawks to back-to-back MIAA Division I state titles.

His father Andre Tippett was a standout for the New England Patriots, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2008.Â
