CLINTON, N.Y. -- With an 8-1 victory at Hamilton College on
Sunday morning, the 17th ranked Tufts University women's tennis
team remained unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 and improved to
9-3 overall.
Tufts played to three more 6-0, 6-0 singles wins against the
Continentals, all by first year players. Lindsay Katz
(Owings Mills, MD) won by that score at #3, #5
Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) did it, and
Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) won in #6 singles by
shutout. Senior tri-captain Meghan McCooey (Cumberland,
RI) won both sets 6-1 in her #2 match.
The Jumbos had come out of doubles with a 2-1 lead. The #1 duo
of junior tri-captain Julia Browne (Old Brookville,
NY) and McCooey continued to win impressively with an 8-2
final. Katz and Lam also continued to prove they are a good match
at #2 with an 8-3 win. Hamilton's Deb Barany and Amelia Mattern in
third doubles earned the lone Hamilton win. It was the first loss
in singles or doubles for Tufts against NESCAC competition.
Coach Kate Bayard's Jumbos step out of conference play to host
Brandeis University on Tuesday afternoon. Hamilton (3-7, 0-4
NESCAC) is at Amherst next Saturday.
