MEDFORD -- The Tufts University women's tennis team finished its 2009-10 regular season in fine fashion with a 6-3 victory over Bowdoin College in NESCAC action on Saturday at Voute Courts. The match was meeting between the #11 in the nation Jumbos and the #13 Polar Bears.

Coach Kate Bayard's Tufts squad improved to 13-5 overall and 7-2 in NESCAC, while the Polar Bears dropped to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in the league. Both teams will await the pairings for the upcoming six-team conference championship to be held at Amherst College next weekend.

On Saturday, with music from Tufts University's annual Spring Fling concert blaring around them, the teams got down to business on Seniors Day at Voute Courts. Tufts took two out of three in doubles, including an impressive 8-0 win by senior Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) and partner Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) in the #1 match.

In singles, Browne and McCooey were the first two players off the court with quick wins in the top two spots. Browne was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at #1 and McCooey prevailed 6-2, 6-1 in the #2 match. The Jumbos clinched the victory with first year Janice Lam's (San Francisco, CA) 6-0, 6-3 victory on the fifth singles court. Junior Edwina Stewart (London, ENG) added a three-set win at #4 to the Tufts total.

Tufts recognized its three seniors - McCooey, Laura Hoguet (Cincinnati, OH), and Erica Miller (Boca Raton, FL) - at the match.
