Tri-captain Rosie Xia scored fifth in the triple jump for the Jumbos

SPRINGFIELD - Senior Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA), first year Lauren Creath (Corte Madera, CA) and sophomore Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) all won events as the Tufts women's indoor track & field team accumulated 139.5 points to take second at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday. MIT placed first as a team with 206.5 points.
Wilfert and Creath provided Jumbo dominance in the long distances. Wilfert's 10:15.54 won the 3,000 meters by more than eight seconds. Creath's 18:48.86 was only two seconds out front at the end of the 5K.
Allen had the best shot put of the day with 40'10 1/4" (12.45m) distance to win that event, which was top-heavy with Jumbos. Junior Ronke Oyekunle (Harvard, MA) placed third at 39'1 1/4" (11.92m). Allen also added third-place points in the weight throw, launching the ball 46'9 1/2" (14.26m).
Wilfert anchored the second place 4x800 relay foursome. Senior Jen Yih (Palo Alto, CA), sophomore Julia Hajnoczky (Wallingford, PA) and junior Lauren Flament (Shelton, CT) joined her for a 10:19.98 time. Yih was also a top scorer in the 800 with a third place time of 2:30.10.
Senior tri-captain Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) posted two thirds in the jumps. She went 17'1 1/2" (5.22m) in the long jump and 36'3" (11.05m) in the triple. First year Jana Hieber (Goffstown, NH) was second among 18 entrants in the 600 with a 1:40.73 time, losing the race by just a half-second. She was also sixth in the 55-meter hurdles.
The Jumbos are at Boston University's Terrier Classic next weekend.
