BOSTON - With the indoor track & field season heating up, Jumbos Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) and Nakeisha Jones (Boston, MA) both had NCAA provisional qualifying performances for Tufts at the annual Boston University Terrier Inviational on Friday.
Wilfert, already provisionally qualified in the 5,000 meters, ran a 5:02.23 time on BU's banked track for 14th place. Nine-tenths of a second is added to the time due to the banked track, which converts to a 5:03.13 finish that is under the 5:04 flat qualifying mark.
Jones, in her first action of the season after studying abroad in Ghana during the fall, went 37'1 3/4" (11.32m) in the triple jump, narrowly surpassing the 36'11" (11.25m) qualifier. She was fourth at the meet.
The Tufts team is splitting up the weekend between the BU meet and Saturday's invitational at Bowdoin. The BU meet was non-scoring. A Jumbo distance medley relay will run at BU on Saturday.
Also on Friday, Tufts had a 10th place finish in the 500 meter dash by sophomore Kaylee Maykranz (Jackson, WY) with a 1:18.65 finish. The Jumbos were also seventh in the 4x400 meter relay (first for Division III), with a foursome of Sam Bissonnette (Bridgewater, MA), junior Dayorsha Collins (Boston, MA), Maykranz and first yer Jana Hieber (Goffstown, NH) timing 4:00.07.
