First year Kelly Brennan had 12 kills with no errors in 24 attacks

SOUTH HADLEY - First years Kelly Brennan (Burr Ridge, IL), Izzy Kuhel (Brisbane, CA) and Hayley Hopper (Carlsbad, CA) combined for 39 kills with just one error on Friday night as the Tufts volleyball team opened play at the 20th Annual Hall Of Fame Invitational with a 3-0 victory over Westfield State. The Jumbos (18-4) won easily by set scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-14.
Brennan, Kuhel and Hopper each had extraordinary matches on offense. Hopper led Tufts with 16 kills, making just one error in 25 attempts for a .600 percentage. Both Brennan and Kuhel did not have any errors while recording 12 and 11 kills respectively. Brennan's came on 24 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage, while Kuhel hit .688.
Senior tri-captain Audrey Kuan (Los Altos, CA) served three aces offensively and led the Jumbos with 14 digs on defense. Junior setter Kendall Lord (LaJolla, CA) finished with 43 assists in three sets, while Kuhel was in on five blocks.
Julia Warner had nine kills and 15 digs for the Owls (10-17).
Coach Cora Thompson's Jumbos play two important regional matches at the tournament on Saturday. They face #2 in New England Springfield College at noon and then #10 in New England Williams College in non-NESCAC match at 4 pm. Tufts is ranked fourth in the New England Women's Volleyball Association poll.
