Boston College Edges Jumbos in Women's Squash Match, 5-4

Hafsa Chaudhry won the #7 match for Tufts

BELMONT - The Tufts women's squash team won the top three matches against Boston College on Thursday night, but the Eagles won five of the lower six matches to take a 5-4 victory.

Junior #1 Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) and senior #2 Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) both won their matches in straight games for Tufts. First-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) took the #3 match in four games with an 11-9 final in the fourth.

The fourth and sixth matches also went four games, with Boston College winning. Cassandre Burke won the final two games at #4 to break a 1-1 tie with Jumbo first-year Anne Bellinger (Arlington, VA). The sixth match was also tied at 1-1 between BC's Mary Aidan Hanrahan and Tufts' Madison Newbound (Williamstown, MA) before Hanrahan won out 11-5 and 11-9.

The other four matches were decided in three games, with Eagles taking three. Junior Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) was the other Jumbo winner at #7, allowing her opponent just 18 points.

Tufts dropped to 2-2 with the loss, while BC is now 1-1.

Coach Belkys Velez's Tufts team continues a busy stretch by playing four matches at the Wesleyan Round Robin this weekend. The Jumbos first face Wesleyan on Friday night.
