PHILADELPHIA (March 5, 2026) -- The No. 12 Tufts University women's squash team started action at the 2026 College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships at Arlen Specter US Squash Center Thursday afternoon, falling to No. 5 seed Trinity College 9-0 in the opening round of action.
The Jumbos will now battle No. 9 Drexel University on Friday afternoon, after the host Dragons fell to No. 8 seed Yale University 6-3 in opening round action Thursday. Tufts has played Drexel three previous times, with the Dragons earning wins in the previous two while Tufts earned a win in 2012 8-1. Tufts fell to Drexel last year 7-2 in early season action.
The Bantams were just too much for the Jumbos on Thursday though, as Tufts was able to secure just one game for the higher-seeded Trinity team. That game came at No. 4, where first-year
Ella Hill evened her match at a game apiece with a 12-10 win only to fall to Malak Aly 11-9, 10-12, 11-4 and 15-13 in a highly competitive match.
Junior
Chloe Bergam pushed Varvara Kliueva at the No. 6 spot, falling 14-12, 11-8 and 11-8 in a fast-paced affair, while
Vharsha Dinesh battled with one of the best players in the country in Thanusaa Uthrian before dropping an 11-5, 11-9 and 11-6 decision at No. 1.
Sophomore
Sohni Vermani was playing her third match of the season at No. 2 on Thursday, but suffered her first defeat in the position as she was knocked off by Hannah Chukwu 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7.
The Jumbos will be looking for their first Howe Cup win Friday against Drexel, along with their second Top 10 win of the season as they take on Drexel on Court F at Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
