ATLANTA - The #8 Tufts University women's tennis team, which won three matches against national top 25 teams this week, including two against top 10 teams in the previous two days, ran out of gas on Sunday and lost 7-2 to #3 Emory University at the Fab 10 Tournament. The Jumbos will return home with a 4-2 record overall.
Tufts scored wins in #1 doubles and #3 singles. Senior Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) and first year Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) won 8-4 against Emory's Gabbie Clark and Lorne McManigle. In singles play, sophomore Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) had an outstanding win in three sets against McManigle, the #14 ranked player in the nation.
The Jumbos also had a pair of three-set losses. Sophomore Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) won the first set at #5 before losing 7-5 in the second set and then 10-2 in a super tie-breaker. First year Sam Gann (Massapequa, NY) also won in her first set at #6 6-1 before losing 6-4 and 10-7.
Tufts is next in action when they open their spring home and NESCAC schedule against Colby College next Saturday at noon.
