WELLESLEY - The Tufts University women's tennis team won another 9-0 match on Saturday afternoon, this time blanking their opponents at Wellesley College. Including victories at Trinity and at Connecticut College in the past week, the Jumbos have won by shutout three matches in a row.
The Jumbos did not lose a set in their match at Wellesley, the #10 ranked team in the Northeast Region. Tufts, third in the region and #5 nationally, won all three doubles matches with ease. The third pair of first year Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) with sophomore Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) was the most dominant with an 8-1 victory.
In singles play, senior #1 Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) won her sixth in a row, 6-0 and 6-4 against Wellesley's Marie Watanabe. Gann and senior Edwina Stewart (London, EN) also lost just four games in their singles wins in the #5 and #6 matches, respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) won a first-set tie-break at #2 before closing out her victory with a 6-2 second set.
Tufts will face its biggest challenge of the spring so far when they host #1 ranked Amherst College on Tuesday at 4 pm.
