Lindsay Katz was one of four Jumbos to win in straight sets during singles play

MEDFORD - After falling behind 2-1 in doubles play, the Tufts University women's tennis team won all six singles matches to earn a 7-2 victory against Middlebury College in a NESCAC match between national top 10 teams on Friday.
Visiting Middlebury, ranked 10th in the country, won the first and third doubles matches. The #3 pair of junior Sally Wilkey and first year Dorrie Paradies were big 8-3 winners. The Tufts #2 tandem of Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and first year Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) scored the lone Jumbo doubles win at 8-6.
Fifth ranked Tufts turned it around in singles, winning four of the six matches in straight sets. Senior Edwina Stewart (London, EN) gave up just five games while winning the #6 match. In fifth singles, first year Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) lost just six games in her victory, while Katz was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at #2. Senior Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) won the #1 match against Victoria Aiello 7-5, 6-2.
Play on the third and fourth singles courts went to three sets, with first year Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) and sophomore Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) both winning for Tufts, respectively.
Coach Kate Bayard's Jumbos (12-3, 5-1 NESCAC) go to Williams College tomorrow for another NESCAC match against the #2 Ephs beginning at 2 pm. The Panthers (8-3, 4-2) host Skidmore College next Saturday at 2 pm.
