HARTFORD - The #5 Tufts University women's tennis team kept on rolling Saturday, scoring a 9-0 victory in NESCAC action at Trinity College. The Jumbos are now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in NESCAC with five straight wins.
Tufts, which defeated Bowdoin 8-1 on Friday in a match that played until 7 pm, traveled to Trinity on Saturday for a 1 pm start and returned to the court strong with a sweep of doubles. Senior Julia Browne (Old Brookville, NY) and first year Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) were most emphatic, winning 8-1 at #1 against Trinity's Hillary Hoyt and Jillian Steckloff.
Browne in #1 singles won her fourth straight match, and second in a row by 6-1, 6-1 scores. She's 6-2 overall this spring. Senior Edwina Stewart (London, EN) returned to the starting line-up for Tufts in the sixth singles slot and won handily 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) moved up a spot to #4 and didn't miss a beat in a 6-4, 6-3 win. Bowman won 6-1, 6-4 at #3 singles.
The Jumbos continue in conference play with a match at Connecticut College on Wednesday at 4 pm. The Bantams host Brandeis at noon tomorrow.
