MIDDLEBURY, VT – Second seed Williams College advanced to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Tennis Championship Match after a 5-0 win over third-seed Tufts at Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon.
The Ephs (16-3) will take on Amherst (16-1) in the title match set for 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos (14-5) expect to earn an at-large berth into the upcoming NCAA Tournament next week.
The Ephs took all three doubles matches, dropping just eight games. In singles play, Lucy Marchese was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Tufts first year Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) at #3 to give Williams a 4-0 advantage. Nancy Worley later sealed the victory for Williams, topping Jumbo sophomore Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles.
The Ephs were up a set in three of the other four matches, with the #4 singles match in the third set. First year Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) had won the second set at #4 6-3, Tufts' only set win of the match before play was halted.
