WILLIAMSTOWN – The fifth-ranked Tufts women's tennis team opened the 2011-12 season with a non-conference match at #1 Williams College on Saturday and lost 8-1. The Jumbo #1 doubles team of Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) recorded the lone win, 9-8 (0).
Otherwise, the Jumbos were handled in straight sets by the Ephs in the other eight matches. Junior Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) was the most competitive for Tufts, losing 6-2 and 7-5 to Kristin Alotta in the third singles match. Sophomores Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) and Rebecca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) each played to 7-5 set losses in their #4 and #6 matches, respectively.
Tufts plays next at MIT on Thursday.
