LEWISTON, ME - A pair of top 15 teams in the Dunlop Women's College Squash Association Team Rankings gave Tufts 9-0 setbacks on Friday, as #9 Bates and #14 George Washington were both winners in Maine Round Robin action.
The #23 Jumbos were short-handed due to injury, early graduation and students studying abroad. Tufts is now 6-8 overall.
First-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) played the best match of the day for the Jumbos. She lost in five to George Washington's Elizabeth Tapley at #3. The pair went back-and-forth with Tapley winning the fifth game 11-8.
Against Bates, first-year Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) played competitive in a ninth-match loss, scoring 19 points. Three of Tufts' three-game losses against George Washington were well-played. Jumbo first-year Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) lost 14-12, 11-9, 11-8, scoring 29 points. Junior Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) earned 23 points in her #6 loss. Junior Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) had 21 points in a loss at #5.
Tufts continues action at the Maine Round Robin on Sunday with matches against Bowdoin and Drexel.
