Boston College Squeezes by Tufts Women's Squash for 5-4 Victory in Season Opener

Sophomore #1 Paige Dahlman won in four games

CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts women's squash team won four of the top five matches, but Boston College was able to earn a tight 5-4 victory in the Jumbos' 2012-13 season opener on Sunday afternoon at MIT.

Sophomore Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) won the #1 match against BC's Lilly Havens in four games. After losing the first, Dahlman rallied for 11-5, 11-4, and 11-3 wins to take the match. Senior co-captain Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) won at #2 in straight games for Tufts. Seniors Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) and co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) won competitive matches at #4 and #5, respectively.

However, the Eagles swept the bottom half of the order to take the match. The closest was at #6 where BC's Mary Aidan Hanrahan defeated Jumbo sophomore Jamie Maffeo (Brooklyn, NY) 11-8, 11-6, 4-11, 11-4.

Tufts is #24 in the Dunlop preseason national team rankings, while Boston College is at #31.

The next match for Tufts (0-1) is against Wellesley at MIT on November 28.
