Seventh-ranked Women's Tennis Upended by #3 Washington and Lee at Fab Five Invitational

Lindsay Katz won first singles in straight sets

LEXINGTON, VA - In a one-day stop at the Fab Five Invitational on Thursday, the #7 Tufts women's tennis team was edged 6-3 at third-ranked Washington and Lee. The Generals took three third-set singles victories to earn the win.

Washington and Lee came out of doubles with a 2-1 lead. The #2 Jumbo pair of junior captain Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) with sophomore Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) posted an 8-6 win. The other two matches finished 8-5 in favor of the Generals.

Singles play was very night, with four matches going three sets. Katz at #1 and WLU's Trelsie Sadler at #5 posted straight-set wins. At #2, General Jen Snyder came back after losing the first set to win. Flynn had a 6-0 third-set victory to take the third match for Tufts. Patricia Kirkland at #4 and Sallie Griffin at #6 won the first and third sets in their matches as WLU took four of six in singles overall.

Washington and Lee improved to 14-3 overall. The Jumbos (2-3) will open their home spring schedule on Saturday, March 31 against Colby at noon.
