Samantha Gann lost just one game in the #4 singles match

MEDFORD - The #12 Tufts University women's tennis team was perfect in its home and NESCAC opener on Saturday, winning 9-0 against Colby College. The match was played indoors at the Gantcher Center due to weather.

Coach Kate Bayard's Tufts team leveled off at 3-3 overall and is now 1-0 in NESCAC, while Colby dropped to 9-3 and 0-1.

Tufts went 3-0 in doubles play, with only the #1 duo receiving a modest challenge. Sophomore Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) and first-year Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) won 8-5. The #3 pair of sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) and junior Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) took an 8-1 win, while junior captain Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) won 8-2 on the second doubles court.

In singles, Katz set the tone at the top with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Colby's Sarah Wiener. Gann lost just two games at #4 and Lam was a 6-2, 6-0 win in the sixth match. Bowman, Flynn and sophomore Rebecca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) also scored victories.
