Tenth-ranked Bowdoin Records 8-1 NESCAC Victory over Tufts Women's Tennis

Janice Lam had the Tufts victory in sixth singles

MEDFORD - The Bowdoin College women's tennis team, ranked 10th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, swept doubles and won five of the six singles matches to earn an 8-1 victory over #13 Tufts in a NESCAC match played Thursday.

In the #1 doubles match, the Polar Bear pair of Kellen Alberstone and Kate Winingham, which is ranked 10th nationally, scored an 8-5 win over Jumbos Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX). The third doubles match was most competitive, with Bowdoin's Emily Lombardi and Hannah Hoerner winning 8-6 against Tufts' Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) and Becca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA).

Junior Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) had the only Tufts victory of the day in #6 singles, defeating Hoerner 6-4 and 6-2. Bowdoin's Alberstone, ranked seventh in ITA singles, won 6-1 and 6-1 against Schonfeld in the #1 match. Kimmel and Bowdoin's Susanna Howard played the tightest match, with Bowdoin prevailing 6-4, 7-6 (3) at #5.

The loss was the first in NESCAC for Tufts, who dropped to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the league. They host Williams College on Saturday at 1 pm. Bowdoin, now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC, hosts Amherst on Saturday at 11 am.
