Top-ranked Williams College Women's Tennis Wins 8-1 at Tufts in NESCAC Match

MEDFORD - The top-ranked and four-time defending national champion Williams College women's tennis team visited Tufts on Saturday and posted an 8-1 NESCAC victory at Voute Courts.

The Ephs have now won six straight matches and improved to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Tufts has lost its last two, dropping to 7-7 overall and 3-2 NESCAC.

Williams won all three doubles matches, losing just eight total games in the process. At #2 doubles, Kristin Alotta and Kathleen Elkins had an 8-0 victory.

Sophomore Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) recorded the only Tufts win on the day, impressively defeating Nancy Worley 7-5 and 6-1. Worley is the 18th best singles player in Division III according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Jumbos also had a solid performance from sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY), who lost the #4 match to Elkins in a super tie-breaker.

Otherwise, Williams won big in singles. Alotta, ranked eighth nationally, won 6-3 and 6-1 at the top of the order.

The Jumbo schedule doesn't get any easier, with a match at #3 Amherst up next on Wednesday. Williams returns home to host Rochester tomorrow.
