Women's Tennis Falls 7-2 in NESCAC Match at Middlebury College on Saturday

Sophie Schonfeld helped Tufts secure a win in third doubles

MIDDLEBURY, VT - Middlebury College, ranked seventh nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took two out of three in doubles and five of six in singles to defeat #13 Tufts, 7-2, in a NESCAC women's tennis match on Saturday afternoon.

The host Panthers improved to 13-1 overall and 4-1 in NESCAC heading into their final match of the regular season on Sunday at Amherst. Tufts dropped its fourth straight NESCAC match, falling to 3-4 in the league and 7-9 overall. The Jumbos host Trinity on Sunday in their final regular-season match.

Middlebury's Brittney Faber and Leah Kepping, ranked sixth nationally in doubles, won 8-1 in the first doubles match. Jumbo first-year Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) and sophomore Becca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) prevented a Panther sweep with an 8-5 win in the #3 match.

In singles play, Middlebury lost just seven games in the top three matches. At #4, Tufts sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) continued her fine play with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Faber.

The Jumbos are likely to earn one of the six berths into the NESCAC Championship to be played at Williams next weekend (May 4-6).
