Third-ranked Amherst Defeats Women's Tennis 8-1 in Finals of Nor'Easter Bowl

Sophomore Samantha Gann earned Tufts' lone victory

WELLESLEY - The Amherst College women's tennis team, ranked third nationally, won the 2012 Nor'Easter Bowl hosted by Wellesley College with an 8-1 victory against #12 Tufts in the championship match on Sunday. The Lord Jeffs and Jumbos were the top two seeds in the tournament and advanced through the bracket during the weekend.

Amherst rolled through doubles, losing just five games. That included 8-1 wins by the #1 pair of Jordan Brewer and Laura Danzig, as well as the third duo of Caroline Richman and Gabby Devlin.

In singles, Jumbo sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) broke up the shutout with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Caroline Richman in fourth singles. Tufts sophomore Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) also had a 6-4 win in the second set at #3. 

The Jumbos are home for a NESCAC match against Connecticut College on Wednesday at 4 pm.
