NEW LONDON, CT - The Tufts women's squash team played a match for the first time in over a month on Saturday and lost at NESCAC foe Connecticut College 8-1 as the second semester of action opened.
The Jumbos enter the semester ranked #24 in the 2012-2013 Dunlop Women's College Squash Team Rankings as of January 13. The Camels are #28. Four of Saturday's matches were played to four games, with Connecticut College winning three.
The lone Tufts victory came in the #2 spot from sophomore Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO). With the match tied at 1-1, Dahlman won the third and fourth games by 11-3 and 11-5 scores to clinch the win.
Jumbos Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA), Risa Meyers (New York, NY), and co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) all played competitive four-game matches in the #3, 5, and 6 spots respectively. Bellinger had an 1-0 lead in the #3 match before Camel Ashley Arthur rallied for the victory. Meyers and Chaudhry both won the second games of their matches.
The #1 match went to Connecticut College's Caroline Sargent, who defeated Jumbo senior co-captain Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) 11-8, 11-4, 11-4.
Tufts is in action next at the Maine Round Robin tournament hosted by Bowdoin next weekend (Jan. 25-26).
