BELMONT - The Tufts women's squash team earned a solid 5-4 victory over Boston College on Wednesday night at Belmont Hill School. The victory stopped a four-game losing streak by the Jumbos.
In the January 27 Dunlop Women's College Squash Team Rankings, Boston College is #23 and Tufts is #25. On Wednesday night, the Jumbos were able to secure a win over their higher-ranked opponent.
Tufts won five of the top six matches. Sophomore Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) was the most convincing winner for the Jumbos, allowing 18 points in a three-game victory at #2. Senior co-captain Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) also had a three-game win in the first match, as did senior co-captain Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) at #6.
Jumbo senior Ushashi Basu (Darien, CT) lost her first game at #4 13-11, but rallied for 11-4, 11-3, and 11-7 wins to take the match. Senior Risa Meyers (New York, NY) scored a four-game win for Tufts at #5, losing only the third game 13-11.
Sophomore Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) battled to five games before losing the seventh match. She earned a 13-11 final in the fourth to force a decisive fifth game, which BC's Caroline Kulig won 11-5.
The Jumbos (3-7) play in the NESCAC Championship tournament at Trinity and Wesleyan this weekend, beginning with a first-round match versus Bowdoin on Friday at 7 pm.
