Junior Ann Bellinger helped the Jumbos upset Boston College with her victory in the number three position

CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts women's squash team will head into Thanksgiving break on a good note as the Jumbos upset #28 Boston College on Monday night at the Belmont Hill School. Tufts, ranked 33rd nationally edged the Eagles, 5-4, thanks to junior Eleanor Monroe's (New Canaan, CT) five game win in the number seven position.
The Jumbos, who were playing without sophomore Paget Stanco (Rye, NY) who has been playing number one all season, all had to move up a position in Monday nights duel. Sophomore Tammara Gary (Exeter, NH) recorded the first points for the Jumbos, winning in three games in the number two position.
Junior Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) battled in the number three position, beating Madeline Bette in three games with the second game going to 17 points (11-6, 17-15, 11-8). Rookie Anna Bezahler (Phildadelphia, PA) followed that with a win in the number four position in three games as well, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9.
Sophomore Sophie Laing (Red Hook, NY) picked up the fourth win in the number nine position, topping Nora Elson, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4. Monroe picked up the fifth and final point for the Jumbos in the number seven position, as her match with Katherine Neuberger went five games and then extra points, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 17-15.
First-year Lynn Cheng (Singapore) played in the number one position and battled Lilly Havens, eventually falling in four games, 7-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-5. Similarly, senior Caroline Howe (Carlisle, MA) challenged Mary Aidan Hanrahan in the number five position, losing in five games, 11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-4.
Junior Sally Pratt (Groton, MA) and sophomore Madison Hafitz (Atlanta, GA) also played for the Jumbos, but lost in three games in the sixth and eight spots, respectively.
The Jumbos are now off for the Thanksgiving break and will return to action when they travel to Bates for a 12:00 pm showdown with this NESCAC rival on December 7.
