MEDFORD - The 16th ranked Tufts women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 victory against #24 Wellesley College on Saturday in their first spring action at home on Voute Courts.
The Jumbos' doubles sweep included an 8-0 win by senior co-captain Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and junior Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) at #2. The #3 pair of senior co-captain Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) was nearly as dominant, winning 8-1.
The closest match of the day was at #1 doubles, where Jumbos Lauren Hollender (Newton, MA) and Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) went extra for a 9-7 win over Wellesley's Sojung Lee and Diana Granger.
In singles, Tufts did not lose a set and gave up just 19 games in the six matches. Lam shut out her opponent at #6. Katz at #1 and Bowman at #2 lost just one game, while Schonfeld posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the fourth court.
The win pushed Tufts to 3-4 overall heading into their NESCAC opener at Colby next Friday. Wellesley, who dropped to 8-4, hosts the Nor'Easter Bowl next weekend (Apr. 5-7).
