Senior Kerry Eaton scored three times in her final game at Bello Field

MEDFORD - Junior Betsy Sachs (Glenside, PA) scored five goals as sixth-ranked Bowdoin wrapped up its regular season with a 12-6 women's lacrosse victory at Tufts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (13-2 / 8-2 NESCAC) have a home berth into the 2013 NESCAC Championship tournament which starts on Saturday. Tufts also earned one of the eight spots in the tournament. Official seeds and pairings will be announced at the conclusion of today's NESCAC contests.
Tufts scored the first goal on Wednesday by senior co-captain Kerry Eaton (Norfolk, MA), but the Polar Bears netted the next six and never looked back. Senior co-captain Carolyn Gorajek (Hightstown, NJ) scored three goals and assisted another during the Polar Bear run. Her third goal put Bowdoin up 6-1 with 6:27 remaining until halftime.
The teams traded goals by Eaton and Sachs for a 7-2 Bowdoin lead at the break. The Bears had a 16-7 advantage in shots for the half and could have led by more if not for six saves by Jumbo senior goalie Tess Shapanka (Sudbury, MA).
The hosts pulled within 7-3 on junior Gabby Horner's (Allentown, NJ) goal five minutes into the second half. However, Sachs and junior Jordan Smith (Glen Ridge, NJ) scored on free-position shots for Bowdoin to open a 9-3 lead.
A free-position, man-up goal by Tufts first-year Caroline Ross (Sewickley, PA), her second goal of the game, brought Tufts to within 10-5 with 4:49 on the clock. Sachs and Smith had the next two for Bowdoin though and the Polars closed out the victory.
Sachs added four draw controls and two caused turnovers in a strong game for Bowdoin. Gorajek also had a five-point game with the three goals and two assists. Smith finished with three goals and had two caused turnovers. Senior co-captain Hannah Wright (Rutland, VT) led the visitors with three groundballs, while senior goalie Tara Connolly (Simsbury, CT) made six saves.
Eaton scored three times to lead Tufts. Senior Collier Clegg (Evanston, IL) recorded five draw controls while sophomore Emily Wright (Richmond, VA) collected three groundballs. Shapanka made nine saves total.
Bowdoin finished with advantages of 29-20 in shots, 14-11 in groundballs, and 13-7 in draw controls. They had four goals on eight free-position chances.
