MEDFORD - The #27 ranked Tufts Men's Tennis cruised past Babson College in their first home contest of the fall season at the Voute Courts on Friday. The Jumbos were one doubles win away from sweeping the Beavers, as they came away with an 8-1 victory. The match was the first of the fall season for the Beavers (0-1).
Highlighting doubles play was sophomore Jay Glickman (Chappaqua, NY) and freshman Ryan Rosen (La Jolla, CA) who made quick work of the Beavers' Connor DeFiore and Saif Rahim winning at #2 doubles 8-1. In #3 doubles the duo of senior Matt Pataro (Miami, FL) and fellow classmate Austin Blau (Roslyn, NY) also came away with a victory over Babson's Davin Garcia and Isaac Thylen, 8-4.
The only win for the Beavers came at #1 doubles as Victor Vu and Roberto Perez were able to just edge the duo of sophomore Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL) and first year Brad Wong (Granite Bay, CA), 8-6.
The Jumbos continued their dominating play in the singles line-up. Glickman came away with a convincing win in #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Perez. Jacobson also won at #2 singles topping Victor Vu, 6-4, 6-2.
Wong and fellow rookie Kevin Kelly (Ashburn, VA) won at #3 and #4 singles as they beat Babson's Thylen (6-3, 6-1) and DeFiore (6-0, 6-3), respectively. The closest play of the match came between Rosen and the Beavers' Garcia. Rosen lost the first set 6-7, before coming back to earn the victory, 6-2, 10-3. The Jumbos closed out singles play with a victory in the #6 spot with junior Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) topping Rahim, 6-2, 6-3.
The Jumbos will be back in action September 27-29 when they travel to Middlebury to play in the ITA Regional Championships.
