BABSON PARK, Mass.—In a match that lasted nearly five hours, visiting Tufts University rallied from a one-point deficit after doubles play by winning five of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Babson College in non-conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.

Tufts, which was playing its final dual match of the fall, is now 1-1 on the year, while Babson, which had won three straight matches, drops to 11-3 overall.

The Beavers' top doubles pairing of senior Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.)  and first-year Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) recorded the first point of the match with an 8-4 win over the Jumbos' duo of sophomore Alexa Meltzer (New York, N.Y.) and first-year Aandrita Deb (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) for their fifth consecutive victory. First-years Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) won for the fourth straight match, 8-5, at number two, before sophomore Jacqueline Baum (Highland Park, Ill.) and first-year Lauren Louks (Malibu, Calif.) of Tufts defeated senior Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) and junior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.), 8-6, at number three.

Akgul stayed unbeaten in dual-match singles, cruising past Deb, 6-2, 6-1, at number one before Tufts rallied for five consecutive victories.  Sophomore Conner Calabro (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) won 6-3, 6-1 at number four, and first-year Zoe Miller (Agoura Hills, Calif.) recorded a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at number five to even the match at 3-3. Jumbos' sophomore Chelsea Hayashi (San Anselmo, Calif.) went up a break in each set to defeat Babson first-year Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.), 7-5, 6-4, at number six, while Louks did the same at number three to hold off Quenard, 6-4, 7-5, and secure the match.

The final match to conclude came at number two singles where Freeman rallied after dropping the first set before ultimately falling to Meltzer, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Both teams return to action on Friday as Babson will take part in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) hosted by Mount Holyoke and Smith, while Tufts concludes its fall schedule at the Bowdoin Invitational.
