NORTHAMPTON – The Tufts volleyball team opened up play in the Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday night, taking on Westfield State at Smith College. In a match that was delayed nearly two hours because of a power outage, the Jumbos topped the Owls 3-0.
The Jumbos offense was led by senior tri-captain Hayley Hopper who finished with 11 kills, while first year Katie Kim turned in nine digs and senior tri-captain Isabel Kuhel finished with eight kills. Junior Kyra Baum took care of the setting for the Jumbos finishing with 42 assists.
Junior Carolina Berger had 13 digs for the Jumbo defense, as first-year Alex Garrett and Hopper both added eight digs. Kuhel also had one block and four block assists. The Jumbos finished with nine service aces, as Kim, Kuhel and Berger finished with two apiece.
Hall of Fame Invitational play resumes on Saturday. The Jumbos will face Wellesley at 12:00 pm and Brandeis at 5:00 pm. Westfield State will take on Hamilton at 12:00 pm and Smith at 2:00 pm to finish our their slate of tournament play.
