BELMONT – The women's squash team opened their home bill on Friday night, taking on Connecticut College at the Belmont Hill School. The Jumbos were edged by the Camels, 5-4. Senior tri-captain Paige Dahlman, sophomore Anna Bezahler and first-years Lauren Banner and Gabrielle Salomon all picked up wins for the Jumbos.
Dahlman took the courts in the two position and was able to top Leah Puklin in three games, 11-9, 11-4, 11-7. Banner also had little trouble with her Connecticut College counterpart, winning over Adrienne Sieverding in the fourth position, 11-2, 11-7, 11-2. The scores were very similar in the fifth position, as Bezahler beat Nina Nalle, 11-7, 11-1, 11-2. Salomon's match in the sixth position was a little more work as it went to five games, with the Camel's Allie Fuller falling 11-7, 12-14, 11-8, 3-11, 11-4.
Senior tri-captain Ann Bellinger pushed her match to five games but wasn't able to top Mawa Ballo in the third spot (11-9, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8). First-year Claudia Udolf took on Ashley Arthur in the first position, and was able to score 21 points, but fell, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6. First year Ellen Harvey and junior Hannah Park took the courts in the seventh and eighth positions, respectively, but weren't able to top their Camel counterparts.
The Camels won by default in the ninth position.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Hamilton at 2:00 pm. They will follow that with a 2:00 pm match at Middlebury on Sunday.
