Sophomore Paget Stanco won for the Jumbos against Virginia on Saturday

PRINCETON, NJ – The Tufts women's squash team dropped a heartbreaker to Virginia, 5-4, in the semifinals of the D division of the College Squash Association's team championships on Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos will now play William Smith in a consolation match on Sunday morning.
Playing one of the toughest matches of the day in the number one position, sophomore Paget Stanco (Rye, NY) used five games to top Celia Dyer. First year Anna Bezahler (Philadelphia, PA) picked up a win for the Jumbos in the number four slot, topping her Cavalier opponent, 11-7, 13-11, 11-8.
Fellow classmate Lynn Cheng (Singapore) cruised to a win in the fifth spot, downing Tara Simonson, 11-4, 11-3, 11-2. The last win for the Jumbos came from senior Caroline Howe (Carlisle, MA) in the number six position as she needed four games to beat her Virginia opponent, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4.
The match was as close as it could be as the duel in the number two position went to five games. Junior Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) was just edged in five games by Virginia's Lindsay Bralower, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-9. Classmate Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) also played a tough match in the number three position, falling in four games to her Cavalier counterpart, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9.
Junior Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) aw her match go to four games in the number eight slot, eventually losing to Charlotte Mara, 11-4, 11-9, 5-11, 11-4. Rookie Rowan Rice (Rye, NY) and sophomore Sophie Laing (Red Hook, NY) played in the seventh and ninth spots, respectively, but were not able to beat their Virginia opponents.
The match between the Tufts and William Smith on Sunday morning at 8:30 am will determine who finishes 27th and 28th in the rankings. The Jumbos entered the weekend in the 25 spot and have already topped the Herons earlier this season, 7-2.
