PRINCETON, NJ – The Tufts women's squash team won their consolation match in the D division of the College Squash Association's team championships against William Smith, 5-4, on Sunday morning. The Jumbos finished with the 27th ranking overall and third in their division.
Sophomore Paget Stanco (Rye, NY) started off strong for Tufts in the number one position, topping Allison Rubin, 11-5, 11-6, 11-2. Cruising through her match in the number two position was junior Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO), as she topped Delaney Teceno, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6.
Playing in the number three position junior Ann Bellinger (Arlington, VA) played a close three games with Eleanor Hayes but was able to earn the win, 11-8, 11-8, 14-12. Rookie Anna Bezahler (Philadelphia, PA) brought home a win in the number four position, winning over Justine Shank, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4. The last Jumbo win came in the number fifth position from first year Lynn Cheng (Singapore) who downed Phoebe Carlisle, 11-4, 11-6, 11-3.
In the number six position, senior Caroline Howe (Carlisle, MA) was able to take her match to four games, but eventually fell to her Heron opponent, 5-11, 11-1, 11-5, 11-6. Rookie Rowan Rice (Rye, NY) played an even closer match in the number seven position, falling to Erin Casey in five games, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-5. Junior Charlotte Griffiths (Ardmore, PA) and sophomore Sophie Laing (Red Hook, NY) played in the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, but were unable to bring home wins.
The tournament was the last of the team competition of the season, as only the CSA Individual Championships remain on the Jumbo's schedule. Select individuals will be participating in the individual championships that begin on February 28.
