Rob Jacobson won in singles play for the Jumbos against Trinity

CLAREMONT, CA - In their first NESCAC match of the season the Tufts men's tennis team took one doubles match and two singles matches, but it wasn't enough as the Jumbos fell to Trinity, 6-3 at Pomona on Friday afternoon. With the loss the Jumbos conclude their spring break trip with a 3-2 record.
The Jumbo duo of sophomore Nik Telkedzhiev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) and junior Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) won at #1 doubles, topping Trinity's Dan Carpenter and Ned Mandel, 8-2. Picking up another win for the Jumbos at #2 singles was sophomore Rob Jacobson (Winnetka, IL) who battled with the Bantam's Rutendo Matingo, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. The other Jumbo win came from freshman Brad Wong (Granite Bay, CA) at #4 singles who edged his Trinity counterpart, 7-6(7-2), 3-0.
Jacobson and Wong played at #2 doubles but weren't able to top Trinity's pair of Ford Traff and Musyoka Mbithi, 8-1. Also falling in doubles play was senior Matt Pataro (Miami, FL) and Nick Cary who took on Ilya Levin and Matingo but were beaten, 8-2.
Telkedzhiev played at #1 singles but was topped by Carpenter in two sets. Similarly, Tan played at #3 singles and fell in two sets. Senior Zach Ladwig (Chelmsford, MA) battled Traff at #5 singles, but ended up falling 7-6(8-6), 6-1. Rounding out the singles line up for the Jumbos was freshman Kevin Kelly (Ashburn, VA), who took a set from Levin at #6 singles, but ended up being edged, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
The Jumbos now have a week off before they play another NESCAC match against Amherst on March 29 at home at 10:00 am.
