WORCESTER - The Tufts women's crew varsity eight won the Bernard Brown Cup over WPI in Easter Sunday action at Lake Quinsigamond. The Jumbos edged the Engineers by a length to regain the Cup.
WPI had taken the Cup in each of the last three seasons. On Sunday, the Tufts varsity eight finished with a 6:59.88 time compared to 7:04.31 by WPI. Five teams overall were in the varsity eight race, won by William Smith with a 6:55.20 finish. Tufts was second.
In the men's Bernard Brown Cup, WPI retained the trophy with a 6:12.06 to 6:26.53 victory over Tufts. Four teams overall competed in the race with the Jumbo time placing third.
Seven races were contended overall. The Tufts women's second varsity eight was third with a 7:25.5 time behind William Smith (7:11.6) and WPI (7:22.5). WPI edged the Jumbos in the women's third varsity eight race 7:38.47 to 7:41.19. In the women's novice eight, Tufts was third (8:21.81) behind William Smith (7:33.72) and Skidmore (7:58.27) and ahead of Clark (9:22.26).
Two other men's races included Tufts placing fourth in second varsity eight (6:51.58) out of five. Host WPI won in 6:25.2. WPI defeated the Jumbos in men's novice four 7:35.5 to 7:47.05.
