Uppgren's Seven Goals Lead #6 Tufts Men's Lacrosse to 18-3 NESCAC Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, NY - Sophomore John Uppgren scored seven goals as the sixth-ranked Tufts men's lacrosse team posted an 18-3 win over Hamilton College in a NESCAC game at Steuben Field Saturday.

The Continentals (3-8, 0-7 NESCAC) scored the first goal of the second quarter to pull to within 4-1 before the Jumbos (8-2, 5-1 NESCAC) ran off 12 straight goals.

Uppgren led Tufts with eight points. He scored seven of the Jumbos' first 12 goals, including six in the first half. Junior Cole Bailey finished with five points on two goals and three assists and classmate Peter Gill scored a pair of goals. Eight Jumbos contributed one goal, including senior Beau Wood, who also assisted on two scores.

Senior Bryan Hopper scored Hamilton's first goal and assisted on the Continentals' final score. Sophomore Joe Ricciuti and junior John Zimmerman both scored a goal each.

Senior Patton Watkins made five saves in goal for Tufts, holding the Continentals scoreless in both the first and third quarters. The Jumbos outshot Hamilton 52-26. Sophomore Alex Salazar (three saves) and junior Brian Droesch (one) split time in the fourth quarter.

Tufts sophomore Conor Helfrich, who won 11 of 17 face-offs, led all players with seven ground balls. Junior Chris Schoenhut picked up six and junior defenseman Garrett Read added four. Schoenhut and Read both caused a pair of turnovers.

Junior Will Driscoll made 14 saves in the Continental net and led Hamilton with a career-best six ground balls. Ricciuti and sophomore Sellers Garrett both picked up a career-high five. Junior Dylan Lahey collected four ground balls and matched a personal-high with a team-leading four caused turnovers.

Hamilton returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Williams for a 4:30 p.m. NESCAC game. The Jumbos host Endicott, ranked 16th nationally Tuesday night.
